ALTOONA, PA – The SUNYIT women's bowling team went 4-4 in match play while finishing in fifth place overall at the St. Francis (PA) Invitational, which was played at Holiday Bowl in Altoona, PA this past Saturday and Sunday. The Lady Wildcats are now 15-5 overall in head-to-head competition.
The Wildcats opened competition by taking down Medaille College 945-760, Penn State Altoona 834-781 and Adrian College 814-773 on Saturday, while falling to Kutztown University 829-899 and St. Francis University 785-830. Junior Amanda Pratt (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) finished with a five-game series of 900 that was highlighted by a high game of 225 in the win over Medaille, while fellow classmate Katie Freisatz (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) bowled a team-best 230 in the win over Medaille and finished with a five-game total of 876. Individually, Pratt and Freisatz finished sixth and seventh, respectively, out of 35 bowlers overall.
Junior Kourtni Pratt (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) had a total pinfall of 876 to finish eighth individually, senior Meghan McGurn (Slingerlands, NY/Bethlehem) finished with a five-game series of 865 to place 11th and junior Tabatha Williams (Endwell, NY/Herkimer County CC) bowled a 697 to finish 24th.
The Wildcats would then go 1-2 in Baker match play on Sunday, falling to Medaille four games to 2 and Adrian 4.5 games to 1.5 in their first two matches before closing play with a 4-1 victory over Penn State Altoona.
Kutztown Unviersity, ranked No. 9 in the nation, won the event, defeating St. Francis 4-3 in the championship Baker match and going 7-2 overall during the weekend.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday, December 29 when they travel to Allentown, PA for the Nittany Lion Kegler Classic.
