SB: Strong Second Game Lifts Wildcats to Doubleheader Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

North Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The SUNY Poly softball team split a doubleheader on Thursday, dropping a 3–0 decision to Mount Saint Aloysius in game one before bouncing back with an 8–4 victory over Centenary in game two. The Wildcats move to 2-4 on the season.

GAME ONE: SUNY POLY VS. MOUNT SAINT ALOYSIUS

Game one developed into a pitcher's duel early, but Mount Saint Aloysius struck quickly in the top of the first inning. After a pair of baserunners reached, the Mounties capitalized with a two-run double to take an early 2–0 lead.

Despite the early deficit, SUNY Poly received a steady performance in the circle from Annabella Mondello, who settled in after the first inning and worked through multiple scoreless frames. The Mounties threatened at times, including putting runners in scoring position in the sixth, but Mondello and the Wildcats' defense worked out of trouble to keep the game within reach.

Mount Aloysius added an insurance run in the seventh inning, using a two-out double followed by an RBI single to extend the lead to 3–0.

SUNY Poly was unable to mount a late rally in the bottom half, as the Mounties closed out the shutout victory.

GAME TWO: SUNY POLY VS. CENTENARY

The Wildcats responded in game two with a strong offensive showing, quickly erasing an early deficit. Centenary plated a run in the top of the first, but SUNY Poly answered immediately in the bottom half.

After reaching base, Ava Faragon and Alivia Turk set the stage for Annabella Mondello, who delivered a two-run single to give the Wildcats a 2–1 lead.

SUNY Poly broke the game open in the second inning with a five-run outburst. The rally featured contributions throughout the lineup, including RBI hits from Faragon, Turk, Mondello, and Jessica Glenn. Mondello's bat remained a key factor, as she drove in two more runs during the inning to help extend the lead to 7–1.

Centenary chipped away in the third, scoring on a passed ball, and added two more runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit. However, SUNY Poly's pitching and defense held firm the rest of the way.

The Wildcats added an additional run in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice, providing a key insurance run as the game progressed.

In the circle, Shelbi Hagues delivered a complete-game effort, working through traffic in the middle innings and limiting further damage after Centenary's fifth-inning rally.

SUNY Poly closed out the game defensively in the seventh, turning a key double play to halt any comeback attempt and secure the 8–4 victory.
