MBB: Wildcats Cruise Past Pioneers 92-76 for Fifth Straight Win

Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's basketball team secured their fifth consecutive victory, defeating the Utica University Pioneers 92-76. Daimarr Miller led the Wildcats with an impressive 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting, while Kamryn Comstock posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 12-6 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Poly came out strong, jumping to an early 5-0 lead with a fastbreak layup from Cheickne Toure and a three-pointer from Miller. The Wildcats' defense was aggressive from the start, capitalizing on turnovers and steals. Miller continued to shine, hitting two more three-pointers with 16 minutes remaining, extending the lead to 13-4.

Utica fought back, with Damien Call and Dayion Thompson providing key contributions. Call connected on several shots in the paint, while Thompson drained a three-pointer to keep the Pioneers within striking distance. Despite their efforts, the Pioneers couldn't slow down the Wildcats, who stretched the lead further with timely baskets, including a dunk by Anthony Rose and another three-pointer from Miller.

In the final minutes of the half, SUNY Poly's offense remained efficient, and their defense held Utica at bay. A late dunk by Comstock and free throws from Toure pushed the lead to 46-33 by halftime, giving the Wildcats a comfortable margin going into the break.

The second half saw SUNY Poly continue to build on their lead. Miller remained a consistent scoring threat, hitting multiple jumpers, while Comstock added a layup to push the lead to 79-65 with just over six minutes left. Despite Thompson's continued scoring efforts, Utica couldn't string together enough consecutive baskets to mount a comeback.

Rose contributed a key three-pointer and a couple of free throws down the stretch, while Comstock sealed the win with a dunk in the closing minutes. The Wildcats' defense kept forcing stops, and SUNY Poly closed out the game with a 92-76 victory.

"It was a great atmosphere over there tonight. Poly fans showed up—thank you!" said head coach Rob Schoener. "We guarded well in the first half and really shot well all night. Good win, got to keep improving!"
