2025-26 will mark the 11th season for Coach Rob Schoener at SUNY Poly. In his tenure the Wildcats are 159-108 and have made appearances in their Conference Championship Tournament in each of the last ten seasons.
This past season, in his their first year in the Empire 8, Coach Schoener led his Wildcats to the Empire 8 Championship game before losing a tightly contested battle to the Utica University Pioneers. The Wildcats went 18-10 with an 11-5 record in conference play. Seniors Cheickne Toure, Daimarr Miller and LaMarqus Merchant Jr. along with Junior Anthony Rose were all named to the All-Conference Team.
In his eleven seasons at SUNY Poly, Coach Schoener has helped his players earn 21 All-Conference awards, two d3hoops All-Region Awards, four NABC All-District Awards, and one d3hoops All-American Award.
Schoener came to Marcy from SUNY Delhi, where he was the Head Men’s Basketball Coach from 2007-2014. At Delhi, which competed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) during his tenure, he amassed a career record of 155-70, including a 114-22 record over his last four seasons. He twice led the Broncos to the Region III Championship in 2011 and 2012, and in 2012, the team placed third at the NJCAA Division III National Tournament.
Prior to Delhi, Schoener served as an assistant coach for Monroe Community College from 2004 to 2007. In the 2006-07 season, Monroe was the national runner-up at the Division II NJCAA Tournament, the highest finish in school history.
Schoener is a graduate of St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y., where he was a team captain and helped lead the Cardinals to an 81-23 record in his four years as a player.
Schoener currently resides in New Hartford with his wife and two daughters.
