SB: Wildcats Cruise Past Mustangs, Inch Closer to #1 Seed

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Utica, N.Y - The SUNY Poly softball Team swept a three game series against conference foe SUNY Morrisville, ending all games in five innings. Backed by stellar pitching, the Wildcats offense was once again rolling, scoring 33 runs over 15 innings. Two Wildcats hit career milestones, beginning in game one when Trinity Critelli became the first Wildcat in SUNY Poly Softball history to reach 500 strikeouts, followed by Amy DeSena reaching 100 career hits. The wins push the Wildcats to 22-8 on the season.

GAME 1:

In what was the Wildcats Strikeout Cancer game, Trinity Critelli took the mound and delivered a gem. Critelli allowed no hits over five innings, striking out 13 Mustangs. As for the offense, the bats started clicking fast, as five runs would score in the second inning. Taylor Hunter, Ava Faragon, Alivia Turk and Kimberly Birmingham all tallied RBIs in the inning. Following a shutdown inning on the mound from Critelli, which involved striking out the side, the Wildcats would add three more in the bottom of the third inning. Kelly Powell scored first, crossing the plate after a wild pitch. Turk and Birmingham would go on to add more RBIs to their stat sheet, pushing the Wildcats lead to eight. The Wildcats would not score any more runs, but it was all they needed to secure the 8-0 victory in five innings.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

GAME 2:

In an unconventional way, The Wildcats scored 13 runs in game two on only four hits. SUNY Poly base runners were active, scoring on multiple passed balls, walks and hit by pitches. Alivia Turk led the Wildcats with two of the team's four hits and 3 RBIs, while the other two hits came from Ava Faragon and Joy Stevens. Lockdown pitching once again from Trinity Critelli propelled SUNY Poly to another win in only five innings by a score of 13-1.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

GAME 3:

The Mustangs were first on the board in the final game of the series, spotting two runs in the first inning. However, riding the momentum from the recent wins, the Wildcats quickly responded, scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. More RBIs from Kimberly Birmingham, Ava Faragon and Alivia Turk gave the Wildcats an 8-2 lead at the end of three innings. After giving up two in the first inning, pitcher Joy Stevens settled in, not allowing any more runs to come home. While she was doing her job on the mound, Wildcat hitters kept doing their job at the plate, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, ultimately leading to a 12-2 victory in five innings.

The three wins give SUNY Poly a strong chance at being the #1 seed in the upcoming NAC Softball playoffs.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

Amy DeSena went 2-3 with an RBI.

Jadyn Childers went 1-1 with two walks.

Joy Stevens pitched five strong innings, only allowing five hits.

UP NEXT:
