Lyndon, V.T. – The SUNY Poly men's basketball team bounced back with a hard-fought 83-77 road victory over Clarkson University. Sophomore Kamryn Comstock led the Wildcats with 24 points and eight rebounds, while the team shot an impressive 55 percent from the field and 46 percent from three-point range. The win improves SUNY Poly's record to 2-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wildcats came out hot from beyond the arc, scoring their first 12 points on three-pointers. Clarkson responded, staying within striking distance and eventually taking the lead midway through the first half. Thanks to strong performances from Finn Cork and Braeden Burns, the Golden Knights built a 10-point advantage and went into halftime leading 48-40.
Clarkson extended their lead to 13 points early in the second half, but the Wildcats quickly chipped away. Back-to-back threes from Anthony Rose, followed by a fast-break layup from LaMarqus Merchant Jr., brought SUNY Poly within seven. The Wildcats tightened up defensively and hit key shots from William Scanlon, Daimarr Miller, and Kamryn Comstock, taking the lead with under three minutes to play.
Down the stretch, SUNY Poly made crucial free throws to hold off Clarkson's comeback attempt, sealing the 83-77 victory.
"It's tough to win on the road in college basketball," said head coach Rob Schoener. "We didn't have the focus or effort in the first half, but credit to our guys — they battled on every possession in the second half. It's a great way to head into the Thanksgiving break."
