BASE: Wildcats Beaten By Cornell on Day Two of RussMatt.

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -  The SUNY Poly baseball team was defeated 10-1 by the Cornell College Rams on Saturday at the RussMatt Baseball Tournament in Central Florida. The Wildcats are now 0-4 this season. Cornell College improved to 5-2.

 

The Wildcats got off to a rough start giving up two runs in the second inning, four runs in the third inning, and one run in both the fourth and fifth innings. SUNY Poly tried to rally in the fourth inning with a run, but it was not enough as they failed to score for the remainder of the game.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • James Lynch, Don Vento, Alexander Bonacci, Ryan Pelton, Paul Barber, and Aidan Coykendall each had a hit in the game.
  • SUNY Poly's Ethan Walker was the lone Wildcat to cross the plate, scoring in the fourth inning. He reached base on a walk.
  • The Wildcat's starting pitcher Carter Romansky was tagged with the loss. He gave up six runs (one earned) in three innings.
  • Alex Quig came in as a relief pitcher and allowed one hit and three walks in four innings.
  • Tyler Field pitched the final inning for SUNY Poly.
  • Jake Schope got the win on the mound for Cornell. He pitched 5.2 innings, allowed four hits, one run, and struck out five.
  • Cornell College's James Kent recorded one hit and drove in a pair of runs.
  • Vince Zipperer, Drew Logel, and Darren Mancke each recorded an RBI as well.
  • The Rams capitalized on their opportunities and stole seven bases, while also playing sound defense, with only two errors in the game.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will take on Maine-Farmington on Monday, March 13th in a doubleheader. The games will be played at Lake Myrtle Park – Field #2. Game one is scheduled for a 9:45 first pitch with game two to follow. Farmington is a member of the North Atlantic Conferences East Division, however, the game is not a Conference game between the two schools as the NAC does not play an inter-divisional schedule.
