Camden, N.J. – The SUNY Poly baseball team erupted for a dominant offensive performance, cruising to a 15–2 victory over Yeshiva on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats plated runs in five different innings, including an eight-run third, that helped lift the Wildcats to 4-5 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SUNY Poly wasted little time getting on the board in the top of the first. Quinn Hill sparked the offense with a double and a steal of third before a series of walks loaded the bases. Zach Place delivered with an RBI walk to bring home Luke Landis, giving the Wildcats a 1–0 lead.
Yeshiva threatened in the bottom half of the inning after Moshe Weisenberg reached on a hit-by-pitch and later advanced to third, but SUNY Poly worked out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts and a groundout to keep the hosts off the scoreboard.
The Wildcats added to their lead in the second inning. Derek Holmes and Brody Liddy were both hit by pitches to open the frame, and Johnny Yamin followed with an RBI single to make it 2–0. Quinn Hill then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Liddy and extending the advantage to 3–0.
After a quiet second inning from Yeshiva, SUNY Poly broke the game open in the third with a massive eight-run outburst. The Wildcats capitalized on defensive miscues and timely hitting, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Brody Liddy and another two-run single by Quinn Hill. Zach Place later added a two-RBI single, while Will Orlando chipped in with an RBI hit of his own as SUNY Poly surged ahead 11–0.
SUNY Poly's pitching staff continued to control the game, holding Yeshiva scoreless through the first four innings while allowing just a handful of baserunners.
In the fifth, the Wildcats tacked on another run when Chris Baker tripled to center field and scored on an RBI single from Zach Place, pushing the lead to 12–0.
The offense kept rolling in the sixth inning. After Daniel Flaherty reached on a walk, SUNY Poly capitalized on another Yeshiva error to score a run. Derek Menechino followed with an RBI single, and Mike Lazaridis added a sacrifice fly as the Wildcats extended their lead to 15–0.
Yeshiva finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh. Jacob Canner led off with a double and later scored on an error. Another Wildcats miscue allowed a second unearned run to cross the plate, trimming the deficit to 15–2.
Despite the late runs, SUNY Poly's commanding lead proved insurmountable. The Wildcats closed out the game with a double play and a fielder's choice to secure the 15–2 victory.
