Box Score COBLESKILL, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Basketball Team (2-2, 1-0 NEAC) got off to a good start in league action on Monday night, defeating the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill by a score of 77-70.
Senior Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater) delivered a knockout performance on offense for the Wildcats, netting a season-high 24 points on 9 of 16 shooting while also pulling down 10 rebounds and dishing out 6 assists.
Joining Hanehan in recording a double-double was sophomore Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y. / Washingtonville). Knowles scored 17 points while grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds, an honor she shared with fellow sophomore Deasia Goodson (Freeport, N.Y. / Freeport), who added a whopping 9 blocks and 9 points to her 11 boards on the night.
The Wildcats out shot the Fighting Tigers 41% to 34%, but did most of their damage on the free throw line, scoring 19 from the charity stripe compared with 8 for the home team.
SUNYIT was hot in the first half, jumping out to a 39-29 lead during the first period. The Fighting Tigers clawed back, however, tying the game at 49-all with 12:55 to go in the second half. Ultimately the game was decided by the Wildcats finishing the final 4:41 on a 15-7 run, taking the win 77-70.
SUNYIT's next scheduled game, originally slated for this Wednesday, Nov. 27th, at Wells has been postponed due to expected inclement weather. No make-up date has yet been reached, so at the moment the Wildcats will next take the hardwood on Tuesday, Dec. 3rd, traveling to Cazenovia College for a 7:00 pm pairing.
