WBB: Wildcats Fall on the Road Against The Golden Eagles

Brockport, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team fell to the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles, 85–62, on Friday afternoon. Despite a strong second-half shooting effort from beyond the arc, the Wildcats were unable to overcome a fast start and balanced scoring attack from Brockport. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 7-16 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Poly opened the scoring at the free-throw line as Kelsey Meca split a pair early in the first quarter. Sanaa Lee got the Wildcats on the board from the field with a layup in the paint off a feed from Meca, and Bryanna Lucas followed with a strong finish inside to give SUNY Poly a 5–0 edge.

Brockport responded midway through the frame, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities and transition buckets. Peyton Maneri and Claire Turner converted multiple put-backs to swing momentum, while Mandy Brink knocked down a late three-pointer to cap a 22–6 run. Isabella Kroll drained a triple and Meca added another from deep to keep the Wildcats within striking distance, but the Golden Eagles carried a 22–11 lead into the second.

Brockport extended its advantage in the second quarter with efficient perimeter shooting and points in the paint. Jackie Kozakiewicz opened the period with a three-pointer, and Ava Howie added a jumper inside to push the lead to double digits. The Golden Eagles continued to convert in transition, building a 38–15 lead by halftime.

Out of the break, SUNY Poly showed renewed energy offensively. Alivia Turk sparked the Wildcats with back-to-back three-pointers off assists from Alysa Jackson, trimming the deficit. Kroll connected from long range later in the quarter, and Jackson added a three of her own as SUNY Poly found rhythm from beyond the arc. Amiyah Ferebee contributed on the glass and at the free-throw line, while Kayla Wilson added points from the stripe.

However, Brockport answered each run with timely shooting. Brianna Carey and Steph? Jean-Baptiste hit key three-pointers, and Madison Misser added a triple and a fastbreak layup during a decisive stretch that pushed the lead past 30. The Golden Eagles led 70–37 heading into the fourth.

In the final quarter, SUNY Poly continued to battle. Turk converted a jumper and added a free throw, while Meca and Kroll each buried three-pointers to pace the offense. Ferebee added a layup in the paint, and Jackson and Wilson each knocked down late threes to cut into the margin.

Despite the Wildcats' improved offensive output in the second half, Brockport maintained control behind consistent rebounding and balanced scoring. A late three-pointer from Wilson brought SUNY Poly to 62 points, but the Golden Eagles closed out the 85–62 victory.
