Women's Basketball Ties Program Record for Consecutive Wins, Finishes Regular Season with Program-Best Record in 73-48 Drubbing of Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, NY – The SUNYIT women's basketball team tied the program record for consecutive wins with its sixth straight victory after cruising past Cazenovia College 73-49 in NEAC action Saturday.  The win helped the Wildcats finish the regular season with a program-best record of 18-7 overall.

The Lady Wildcats received at least one point from 13 different players, with sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) leading the way with a game-high 16 points in just 22 minutes of action.  SUNYIT built a double-digit lead seven minutes into the contest and never looked back, taking an 18-point lead into halftime and building its advantage to as much as 38 before settling on the 25-point victory.   

The Wildcats held Cazenovia to just 23 percent shooting from the field and forced 25 turnovers, which they converted into 26 points.

Sophomore Kayla McNeil (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) scored nine points for SUNYIT, while senior Tamara Williams (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) had eight points and seven rebounds.   Junior Sarah Couvillon (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and swatted a game-best three shots to go along with four points and two assists.

Megan McDermott scored 11 points for Cazenovia, while Christy Foster grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Wildcats finished the year 16-6 in conference play and earned the fourth seed in this weekend's NEAC Championship Tournament.  They will open the tournament with a quarterfinal-round contest against No. 5 seed Penn State Berks this Friday at 5:00 pm, with the winner then taking on No. 1 seed Gallaudet University in the semifinal round on Saturday at 4:00 pm.  Gallaudet earned the top seed and the right to host the tournament after finishing with a conference record of 20-2.

Friday's other quarterfinal round contest will consist of No. 3 seed Penn State Harrisburg taking on No. 6 seed SUNY Cobleskill at 3:00 pm.  The winner will then square off against No. 2 seed Keuka College on Saturday at 2:00 pm.

The championship contest is set for Sunday at 1:00 pm.
