Box Score UTICA, NY – Seniors Tamara Williams (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy), Taylor Topping (Bronx, NY/Preston) and Katie Wilday (Galway, NY/Galway) all came up big on their night, as all three provided big plays to help lead the SUNYIT women's basketball team past the visiting Morrisville State Mustangs 74-64 during Senior Night at the Campus Center Gymnasium Wednesday. The Wildcats are now 15-6 in the NEAC and 17-7 overall, while Morrisville dropped to 5-16 in conference play and 5-19 overall.
Williams scored a team-high 14 points, Topping had an outstanding all-around stat line of nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and a team-best five steals, and Wilday dished out three assists and had three of the team's season-high 16 steals on the night. Williams and Topping also dominated down the stretch, as Topping came up with three huge steals during a SUNYIT full court press in the final minutes of the contest and Williams scored four straight points during that same time span to turn a three-point Wildcat lead into a nine-point advantage and essentially clinch the victory.
The Wildcats dominated the glass, grabbing 61 rebounds on the night as opposed to 34 for Morrisville, while also dishing out 24 assists, which was one short of their season high.
Sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored 12 points and fellow classmate Kayla McNeil (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) added 10 points. Junior Caitlin Cottell (Eatontown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and freshman Nailah Cherry (Roosevelt, NY/Roosevelt) combined to score 16 of the Wildcats' 25 points off the bench, with Cherry adding eight boards.
Nijee Scott had game highs of 27 points and six steals for Morrisville, while Nijah Townsend finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
The Wildcats will close out their regular season this Saturday when they travel to take on NEAC rival Cazenovia College at noon.
