Box Score UTICA, NY – Nine different Lady Wildcats scored at least two points and the SUNYIT women's basketball team won its fourth straight contest with a 67-58 victory over the visiting SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers in NEAC action at the Campus Center Gymnasium Saturday. The Wildcats are now 11-5 in the NEAC and 16-7 overall, while the Tigers fell to 10-10 in the conference and 11-12 overall.
Sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) led the balanced offense by scoring nine points in each half and finishing with a game-high 18 points. Senior Taylor Topping (Bronx, NY/Preston) scored 10 points and was the only other Wildcat in double-digits, as SUNYIT got scoring contributions from six other players to overwhelm Cobleskill.
Cobleskill would hang tough in the first half, holding a one-point, 36-35 lead with two minutes left before the break, but four answered points by SUNYIT gave the Wildcats a three-point lead at intermission, 39-36. The Wildcats then came out in a full-court press to open the second half, helping them triple their lead and go up by 12 points after just four minutes of action in the half. That's all SUNYIT would need, holding at least a seven-point lead the rest of the way and cruising to victory.
Junior Sarah Couvillon (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points and two blocks, while freshman Nailah Cherry (Roosevelt, NY/Roosevelt) also scored eight points in addition to five boards and three steals.
Chelcy Moore had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Cobleskill, while Kaitlin Myers also scored 15 points and Erin McLaughlin finished with 12 points and 11 boards.
The Wildcats will look to make it five wins in a row this Wednesday when they host NEAC foe Morrisville State in their final home game of the season. The game will also be the team's Senior Day, where Topping, Tamara Williams (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Katie Wilday (Galway, NY/Galway) will all be honored with a short ceremony before tip-off. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.
