Box Score UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT women's basketball team picked up its fourth straight conference victory with a 70-61 win over the visiting Cazenovia College Wildcats at the Campus Center Gymnasium Wednesday. The win keeps the Lady Wildcats undefeated in NEAC play at 4-0 and improves their overall record to 5-1, while Cazenovia dropped to 2-2 in the conference and 2-4 overall.
The Wildcats controlled the game early, building a 14-point first half lead and taking a 40-26 lead into halftime. SUNYIT would keep the momentum going in the second half, maintaining a double-digit lead throughout most of the half before settling with the nine-point victory.
The Wildcats held Cazenovia to just 33 percent shooting from the field while forcing 16 turnovers on the night.
Sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored a game-high 24 points while also recording eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Freshman Nail Cherry (Roosevelt, NY/Roosevelt) had 15 points, three blocks and two steals, while senior Sarah Couvillon (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Megan McDermott had 19 points and a game-high 16 rebounds for Cazenovia, while Christy Foster scored 14 points and Samantha Allen added 12 points
The Wildcats will look to continue their winning ways this Saturday when they travel to take on conference rival Morrisville State. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
