Brockport, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Brockport Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon. Brockport scored twice during the opening 14 minutes before adding another goal early in the second half. Tyler Barth made four saves in goal for the Wildcats, while Johnpaul Jerome, Marcus Cole and Elijah North each recorded shots on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Brockport controlled the early portion of the match, with Tyler Barth in goal for SUNY Poly. The Golden Eagles recorded their first two shots in the opening seven minutes before earning a corner kick in the ninth minute.
Brockport broke through in the ninth minute when Aiden Johnson scored at 9:03 off an assist from Trevor Lagarde to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Brockport added to its advantage just over four minutes later when Khadim Amar scored at 13:32, again assisted by Lagarde, making it 2-0.
SUNY Poly looked to respond, with Nazim Harizi recording a shot in the 13th minute, but his attempt went high. The Wildcats made several substitutions throughout the remainder of the half as they looked to generate offensive opportunities.
Brockport continued to pressure the Wildcats, but Tyler Barth made a save on Ryan Mathis in the 34th minute to keep the Golden Eagles from adding to their lead. SUNY Poly earned a corner kick in the 37th minute, but Brockport maintained its 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
SUNY Poly came out with offensive pressure to start the second half, with Johnpaul Jerome forcing a save from Brockport goalkeeper AJ Nelson in the 51st minute. Barth answered at the other end moments later, making consecutive saves on Aiden Johnson and Jadin Lyle.
Brockport extended its lead in the 53rd minute when Kyle Milburn scored at 52:20 off an assist from Jadin Lyle to make it 3-0.
The Wildcats continued to create chances despite the deficit, with Marcus Cole forcing another save from Nelson in the 56th minute. Elijah North also recorded shots on goal in the 64th and 78th minutes, with Nelson making saves on both attempts. SUNY Poly earned corner kicks in the 69th and 74th minutes but was unable to find the back of the net.
Barth continued to keep the Wildcats within striking distance, making another save on Parker Warren in the 55th minute. Marcus Duncan entered in goal for SUNY Poly in the 73rd minute, but the Wildcats were unable to cut into the Brockport lead during the closing minutes.
SUNY Poly continued to battle through the final minutes, but Brockport's defense held strong to secure the 3-0 victory.
