Rochester, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to St. John Fisher on Wednesday night. The Cardinals scored once in the opening two minutes before adding two goals early in the second half to secure the victory. Marcus Duncan made several saves in goal for the Wildcats, while Johnpaul Jerome, Marcus Cole, Owen Champion, Carson Frisbie and Jace James each recorded shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. John Fisher applied pressure early, with Marcus Duncan in goal for SUNY Poly. The Cardinals earned a corner kick in the opening minute before Duncan made a save on Michael Linder in the second minute. St. John Fisher broke through moments later when Alec Griswold scored at 1:54 to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats looked to respond, with Carson Frisbie forcing a save from St. John Fisher goalkeeper Parker Stusek in the 11th minute. Johnpaul Jerome followed with another shot that was saved in the 13th minute before sending an attempt wide left shortly afterward.
SUNY Poly continued to create opportunities, earning corner kicks in the 18th and 24th minutes. Owen Champion forced another save from Stusek in the 23rd minute, while Marcus Cole sent a shot wide left in the 30th minute.
St. John Fisher continued to pressure the Wildcats late in the half, earning a pair of corner kicks in the final three minutes. Duncan and the SUNY Poly defense kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard, sending the Wildcats into halftime trailing 1-0.
SUNY Poly came out with offensive pressure to start the second half, earning three corner kicks in the opening eight minutes. Jace James recorded a shot in the 48th minute, while Colby Diamond had an attempt blocked in the 53rd minute.
St. John Fisher doubled its advantage in the 56th minute when Adam Grover converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0. Duncan then made a save on Canyon Reinhardt in the 59th minute before the Cardinals added another goal moments later, with Michael Linder scoring at 59:06 to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Wildcats continued to battle despite the deficit, with JohnPaul Jerome recording another shot in the 65th minute. SUNY Poly earned additional corner kicks in the 70th and 74th minutes, while James added another shot in the 71st minute.
Marcus Cole continued to generate offensive chances late in the match, forcing a save from Stusek in the 79th minute before sending another attempt wide left in the 86th minute. Jerome also forced a save in the 87th minute, but the Wildcats were unable to find the back of the net.
St. John Fisher held on through the closing minutes to secure the 3-0 victory.
