Cobleskill, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's soccer team earned a 4-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats scored twice in the opening 18 minutes before adding two more goals in the second half to secure the shutout victory. Yetneliz Lugo Mateo scored twice in the first half, while Lily Arduini and Rylee Unebasami each added goals in the second half. Skylar Blackwell made several saves to help SUNY Poly preserve the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SUNY Poly wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, with Lugo Mateo finding the back of the net at 2:55 off an assist from Abigail Hughes to give the Wildcats an early 1-0 lead. SUNY Poly continued to apply pressure, with Lugo Mateo, Samantha Barrett, Katelyn Meehan and Arduini each recording shots in the opening 15 minutes.
The Wildcats doubled their advantage in the 18th minute when Lugo Mateo scored her second goal of the afternoon at 17:08, with Arduini providing the assist. Cobleskill goalkeeper Sammy Fausti made several saves to keep the Tigers within striking distance, while Blackwell also came up with saves for SUNY Poly.
SUNY Poly continued to generate chances throughout the remainder of the first half. Lugo Mateo, Kara Mertz, Barrett, Arduini and Brooke Arduini each recorded attempts as the Wildcats carried their 2-0 advantage into halftime. Blackwell made three additional saves late in the half, including two on shots from Cobleskill's Alexa Siegel.
The Wildcats picked up where they left off after halftime, with Hughes putting a shot on goal before Arduini found the back of the net at 53:01. Hughes provided the assist as SUNY Poly extended its lead to 3-0.
SUNY Poly continued to control play throughout the second half, earning several corner kicks and creating additional opportunities. Arduini nearly added another goal in the 63rd minute, but her shot was saved by Fausti.
The Wildcats added their fourth goal in the 71st minute when Unebasami scored at 70:49 off an assist from Mertz to make it 4-0. SUNY Poly continued to pressure the Cobleskill defense in the final 20 minutes, with Mertz and Gresa Deliu each recording shots late in the match.
The Wildcats closed out the match with a strong defensive effort, securing the 4-0 victory and the shutout.
