MBB: Wildcats Dominate Brockport, Cruise to 94–64 Home Victory

Utica, N.Y. — The SUNY Poly men's basketball team delivered a dominant  performance on Saturday afternoon, building a commanding first-half lead and never looking back in a 94–64 victory over Brockport. The Wildcats move to 12-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Poly set the tone early with energy on both ends of the floor. After Brockport scored the opening basket, the Wildcats responded quickly as Kamryn Comstock knocked down an early three-pointer. SUNY Poly forced turnovers and capitalized in transition, with Marqiis Samuels and Anthony Rose converting fastbreak free throws to seize momentum.

The opening minutes were choppy with fouls and turnovers on both sides, but SUNY Poly steadily began to separate itself. Oumaru Hydara sparked the offense with a three-pointer and several strong finishes in the paint, while Alec Bartone and Brian Bonin added interior scoring and second-chance points. The Wildcats' defensive pressure led to steals and run-outs, allowing Rose and Samuels to score efficiently at the rim.

Midway through the half, SUNY Poly went on an extended run fueled by perimeter shooting and ball movement. William Scanlon caught fire from deep, knocking down multiple three-pointers, while Rose added a triple of his own to stretch the lead. The Wildcats dominated the glass and continued to convert off Brockport turnovers, pushing the advantage past 20 points.

SUNY Poly closed the half in emphatic fashion, with Scanlon drilling back-to-back three-pointers in the final two minutes and Maddox Hughey adding a free throw in the closing seconds. The Wildcats headed into the locker room with a commanding 56–23 lead after an overwhelming first-half performance.

The second half saw SUNY Poly maintain its intensity and control. Samuels opened the scoring with a fastbreak layup, and Scanlon continued his strong play with a finish inside and three made free throws. Rose, Comstock, and Bonin each chipped in baskets as the Wildcats extended the lead beyond 40.

Despite Brockport finding some offensive rhythm with perimeter shots and transition buckets, SUNY Poly consistently answered. Bonin connected on a three, Comstock attacked the lane, and the Wildcats' depth came into play as contributions poured in from across the roster. Steven Dowdall, Connor Fulkerson, each knocked down three-pointers during a decisive stretch that put the game out of reach.

In the final minutes, SUNY Poly emptied its bench while continuing to score. Leighton Williams Jr. and Elijah Smith hit three-pointers, while Owen Dake added finishes in the paint. The Wildcats closed out the 94–64 victory with contributions from nearly every player who saw the floor, underscoring the team's depth and balance.

"I'm proud of the defensive energy and intensity our guys came out with today," said head coach Rob Schoener. "It was contagious in the first twenty minutes and we really did a great job of creating for each other on offense as well. Great to see everyone making contributions!"
