Utica, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team was defeated by the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles by a score of 19-3. Griffin LaFleur, Cooper Fitzgerald and Luke Taylor were the Wildcat goal scorers. The Wildcats are now 5-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Brockport got off to a fast start with Carson Colucci scoring the game's first goal just 17 seconds into the match, assisted by Regan Alexander. The Golden Eagles continued to press, with goals from Pierson Jacobs, Hunter Riehlman, Daniel Wright, Jack Rice, and Nate Askin. However, SUNY Poly was resilient, holding its ground on defense and generating a few solid scoring chances. Ryan Carroll and Payton Thomas both fired shots on goal, but Brockport's goalie Jack Acker came up with key saves to help his team hold a 6-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the Wildcats showed more urgency, forcing Brockport's defense to work harder. The Wildcats' offense began to find some rhythm, and despite the Golden Eagles' continued dominance, SUNY Poly managed to break through. Griffin LaFleur scored the Wildcats' first goal. Brockport responded with two more goals from Jack Rice and Jacob Stine, taking an 11-1 lead into the halftime break.
The second half started with Brockport continuing their strong performance. Pierson Jacobs added another goal early in the third, and Brockport's defense stayed steady. SUNY Poly, however, was not without its moments of strength. The Wildcats answered back with a goal from Luke Taylor at 12:43, but Brockport quickly regained control with a goal from Jacobs just minutes later. The Golden Eagles would ride out the period in control, taking a 12-3 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The final quarter saw Brockport close the game with a few more goals from Peter McGowan, Andrew Heins, and a late strike from Nicholas Bisesi. SUNY Poly kept fighting until the very end, with their attack creating some good looks in the final minutes, but the Wildcats would ultimately fall by a score of 19-3.
