MLAX: Wildcats Drop Road Conference Matchup Against Golden Flyers


Rochester, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team fell by a score of 17-6 in a conference matchup with the Nazareth University Golden Flyers. Luke Taylor, Ian Short and Ryan Carroll all notched two points. The Wildcats are now 5-3 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The game began with the Wildcats winning the opening faceoff, but Nazareth quickly gained control. After several minutes of back-and-forth play, the Golden Flyers struck first at the 13:39 mark with a goal from Louis Cogliandro, assisted by William Meagher. Nazareth continued to dominate possession, scoring four more goals in quick succession. William Meagher, Matthew Farrington, Andy Hamel, and William Meagher again found the back of the net, giving Nazareth a 5-0 lead by the 4:11 mark. The Golden Flyers would add some more and end the period up 7-0. 

Despite a strong start in the first, the Wildcats mounted a small response in the second. After a few turnovers by both teams, Nazareth's defense tightened. The Wildcats had a brief advantage when Payton Thomas scored their first goal with 2:07 remaining. However, Nazareth's strong play would give them an 11-1 lead going into halftime. 

The Wildcats came out with more intensity in the third quarter. Ian Short assisted by Kai Hew put SUNY Poly on the board in the second half. Ryan Carroll and Luke Taylor would also add goals for the Wildcats,  However, Nazareth continued to control possession, maintaining its steady lead throughout the quarter. At the end of the third, the score stood at 12-5 in favor of Nazareth.

Nazareth would add some more goals in the fourth quarter, further extending their lead. Luke Taylor would add his second goal of the game later in the period, but it would not be enough to overcome the defecit, and the Golden Flyers would close out the game by a score of 17-6.
