The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team fell to Hartwick College by a final score of 22–7. Callie Johnson and Katelynn Truax led the Wildcats' offense with two goals apiece, while goalkeeper Jayden Brown recorded nine saves in net. With the result, SUNY Poly moves to 1–10 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Hartwick jumped out to a commanding start, riding a 7–0 first-quarter run fueled by efficient ball movement and dominant draw control. The Hawks capitalized on early turnovers and man-up opportunities, getting goals from Hanna Goodreau, Kara Anderson, Maura Donoghue, and Ashley Ament, while Kristen Vaccarelli dictated tempo from the circle.
Though the scoreboard was lopsided early, the Wildcats' defense, anchored by standout goalkeeper Jayden Brown, worked hard to hold the line. Brown notched several key saves — including three early stops against free-position shots — and was active outside the crease, leading the team in ground balls during the opening period.
SUNY Poly found its rhythm in the second frame, fueled by determined play on both ends of the field. Callie Johnson and Katelynn Truax each converted on free-position opportunities to get the Wildcats on the board. Midfielder Kirsten Lighthall and defender Maya Massaro both made key plays in transition to give SUNY Poly added momentum. The Hawks, however, would go into halftime up by a score of 12-2.
The Wildcats played their strongest quarter in the third, putting up four goals behind excellent ball movement and quicker transitions. Madyn LaFleur opened the scoring, assisted by Johnson, and the Wildcats added tallies from Truax, Brinley Ronan, and Johnson herself — who converted on a man-up opportunity. Hartwick would add a few goals of their own and would ultimately take a 18-6 lead into the final frame.
Hartwick closed strong, extending their lead late, but the Wildcats continued to battle. Abigail Rosaschi scored off an assist from Alyssa Hawkins, and the defense forced multiple turnovers from the Hawks. The Hawks would go on to defeat the Wildcats by a final score of 22-7.
