WLAX: Wildcats Downed By Knights At Home

Utica, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team dropped their senior day matchup to the SUNY Geneseo Knights by a score of 25-1. Freshman Brinley Ronan was the lone Wildcat goal scorer. The Wildcats are now 1-11 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Geneseo came out firing, scoring early and often to build a 13–0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Sophomore Alaina Reina tallied a first-period hat trick and added multiple assists, while Sophie Lyko added three goals of her own. Despite the early Geneseo surge, SUNY Poly goalie Jayden Brown stood tall in net and faced relentless pressure. The Wildcats defense, led by Katelynn Truax and Brinley Ronan, forced turnovers in transition and dug in to challenge Geneseo's attack, particularly in the third and fourth quarters.

SUNY Poly found its breakthrough moment early in the third period, when Brinley Ronan scored off a slick assist from Truax, breaking the shutout. The Wildcats followed up with several more offensive pushes, including free position shots by Callie Johnson and Alyssa Hawkins, both turned away by Geneseo's rotating goalkeepers.

While Geneseo continued to widen the gap with contributions from Cate Doxsee (4 goals), Grace Reyna, Shannon Day, and Natalie Long, the Wildcats never stopped competing—causing turnovers, battling for draws, and pressing the Knights' clear attempts throughout the second half.

Ultimately, Geneseo's depth, particularly in draw controls and man-up situations, proved decisive. The Knights finished with 11 different goal scorers and converted five man-up opportunities, while their defense limited SUNY Poly's offensive chances. The Wildcats would fall by a score of 25-1.
