Geneseo, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly softball team dropped both matchups in their doubleheader against the SUNY Geneseo Knights by scores of 2-1 and 11-1. Trinity Critelli and Kimberly Birmingham both tallied RBI's. The Wildcats are now 10-7 on the season.
GAME ONE:
Both teams struggled to generate offense early, combining for just two hits through the first two innings. Geneseo broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fourth when Tara Brochu ripped an RBI double to right field, scoring Lauren Bieniek for the game's first run.
The Wildcats answered in the top of the fifth. After Alivia Turk reached on an error and advanced to second, Trinity Critelli came through with a clutch RBI double to left, tying the game 1–1.
The Knights reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs and a runner on second, Gabriella Smith delivered the go-ahead single to right center, driving in Claire Kubiak for the eventual game-winning run.
Geneseo's defense shut the door in the seventh, allowing just one single from Ava Faragon before ending the game on a groundout to second.
Both teams finished with six hits, and each left several runners stranded in key moments. Brochu and Smith led Geneseo offensively with an RBI each, while Critelli had the lone RBI for the Wildcats.
GAME TWO:
The Knights wasted no time getting on the board in the first, when Kaitlyn Schmitz launched a two-run homer to left field following a leadoff single and stolen base by Brooke Fraas. Geneseo tacked on another run in the second thanks to an RBI single from Ray Schumache, giving them an early 3–0 lead.
The Wildcats got on the board in the fourth when Kimberly Birmingham sent a solo home run over the left field fence to make it 3–1. Alivia Turk followed with a single and advanced to third on a stolen base and error, but the Wildcats were unable to bring her home.
Geneseo blew the game wide open in the bottom half of the inning. Lauren Babich led off with a double and came around to score on Fraas's RBI single. The Knights would go on to record eight hits in the frame, highlighted by a two-run double from Molly Griffin, a two-RBI single by Bella Nadzan, and an RBI double by Sierra VanDerwar.
