Oneonta, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly softball team picked up another pair of wins, defeating the Hartwick College Hawks on the road by scores of 9-0 and 10-0. Annabella Mondello, Kimberly Birmingham and Kelly Powell all drove in multiple runs, while Trinity Critelli and Mondello were dominant in the pitching circle. The Wildcats are now 12-7 on the season.Â
GAME ONE:Â
The Wildcats wasted no time getting on the board, plating two runs in the top of the first. After a double by Shelbi Hagues, an error allowed her to come around and score, and Joely Welpe later drove in another run with a single to give the Wildcats an early 2–0 lead.
SUNY Poly continued to build on their advantage in the third, when Anabella Mondello tripled to lead off the inning and came home on a two-run homer by Kimberly Birmingham, extending the lead to 4–0.
The fourth inning saw more damage, as Trinity Critelli singled and later scored on a double from Ava Faragon. The fifth brought another run thanks to a clutch RBI double by Jadyn Childers.
The Wildcats closed things out with a three-run outburst in the seventh. Pinch hitter Katelyn Adams singled to start the rally, followed by an Aliva Turk double and a two-run knock by Kelly Powell. Leah Larsen added a run-scoring single to cap the scoring at 9–0.
Meanwhile, Trinity Critelli was lights-out, posting a two-hit shutout while striking out 13 Hartwick batters.Â
GAME TWO:Â
The Wildcats jumped out early once again, posting four runs in the opening frame thanks to patient at-bats and aggressive baserunning. Ava Faragon led off with a single, and after three walks—including a bases-loaded RBI free pass to Joely Welpe—SUNY Poly capitalized on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Jillian O'Connor. Kelly Powell capped the rally with an RBI single, giving SUNY Poly a commanding 4–0 lead.
In the second, Faragon singled again and came around to score on a sharp double from Anabella Mondello, extending the lead to 5–0. Mondello was a force in the middle of the lineup, driving in two runs and finishing with two hits on the day.
The Wildcats kept the pressure on in the fourth. A single by Shelbi Hagues and a stolen base by Kimberly Birmingham set the stage for a clutch RBI single from Alivia Turk, adding another insurance run.
SUNY Poly put the game completely out of reach in the fifth with a four-hit, three-run surge. Powell got things started with a double, and RBI hits by Ashley Reid, Mondello, and Birmingham—who roped a two-run double—pushed the score to 10–0.
On the defensive side, SUNY Poly's pitching was once again lights-out. As Mondello limited Hartwick to just three hits, struck out 11 times.
