WLAX: Wildcats Cruise Past Hawks for First Win of the Season

Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team earned their first win of the season with a dominant 15-1 victory over the Hilbert College Hawks. The Wildcats saw six different players get on the scoresheet, with Brinley Ronan leading the charge with four goals. Abigail Rosaschi and Katelynn Truax each netted hat tricks. SUNY Poly is now 1-1 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game started with both teams showcasing strong defensive performances. SUNY Poly goalkeeper Jayden Brown and Hilbert's Olivia Cleary each made early saves to keep the game scoreless. However, the first goal came at the 13:41 mark when Alyssa Hawkins found the back of the net for SUNY Poly. The Wildcats quickly built momentum, with Katelynn Truax scoring to make it 2-0.

Despite Hilbert's strong defensive efforts, SUNY Poly's offense kept coming. Brinley Ronan added two goals, followed by another tally from Hawkins, pushing the Wildcats to a 5-0 lead with just over seven minutes left in the quarter. Hilbert struggled to find their offensive rhythm, with multiple failed clear attempts and turnovers, while SUNY Poly capitalized on the Hawks' mistakes.

Hilbert's only goal of the game came at the 3:31 mark when Jessee Jonathan scored, cutting the deficit to 5-1. However, the Wildcats responded swiftly, with Brinley Ronan netting another goal at 6:53, followed by a goal from Hawkins, and another from Ronan to extend the lead. By halftime, SUNY Poly had built a commanding 11-1 lead after late goals from Madyn LaFleur and Katelynn Truax.

The third quarter saw SUNY Poly continue their impressive offensive performance. Brinley Ronan scored her fourth goal of the game at 12:03, pushing the lead to 12-1. Hilbert's offensive struggles persisted as they were unable to maintain possession, and several clear attempts were unsuccessful. Jayden Brown was tested by a free-position shot from Jessee Jonathan at 3:17, but the SUNY Poly keeper made the save. The Wildcats capitalized on Hilbert's mistakes, with LaFleur adding another goal at 2:15 to make it 14-1.

The fourth quarter was more of the same as SUNY Poly kept their foot on the gas. Abigail Rosaschi scored at 10:08 to extend the lead to 15-1. With the Wildcats maintaining control throughout, they secured a 15-1 victory to earn their first win of the season.
