Utica, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team fell to the SUNY Canton Kangaroos by a score of 22-4. Callie Johnson, Makenzie Pierce and Abigail Rosaschi were the goal scorers for the Wildcats. SUNY Poly is now 1-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first quarter, Canton quickly gained momentum, scoring early with goals from Lindsey Wunder and Maddy Caron, putting them up 3-0. Poly responded with a goal from Abigail Rosaschi on a man-up opportunity, making it 2-1, and later Callie Johnson added another to keep the score close at 4-2. However, Canton continued to apply pressure, extending their lead as the quarter ended with a score of 7-2.
The second quarter was more of the same, as Canton's Olivia McCormick netted two quick goals to push their lead further. Poly kept fighting with a goal from Callie Johnson, but Canton's offensive strength, led by Maddy Caron, helped them extend their lead to 13-4 at halftime.
Despite a valiant effort from Poly in the second half, including several saves by goalie Jayden Brown and key ground ball pickups, Canton's relentless offense dominated. They scored quickly in the third quarter, with goals from Caron and Dupee, making it 16-4. In the fourth, Canton continued to capitalize on their opportunities, adding to their total with goals from Lilly Hargarther, Kenadie Garrow, and others, finishing the game 22-4.
