Oswego, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team fell to the Oswego State Lakers by a score of 20-2. Katelynn Truax and Brinley Ronan were the lone goal scorers for the Wildcats. The loss leaves the Wildcats at 1-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lakers came out strong, quickly building an early lead with goals from Cassidy Croce and Noelle Smith. SUNY Poly responded with some solid defensive efforts, with goalie Jayden Brown making a series of saves to keep her team in the game. Unfortunately, turnovers and a few failed clears prevented the Wildcats from gaining any offensive momentum, while Oswego State capitalized on every opportunity to extend their lead. The first quarter ended with the Lakers up 11-0.
The second quarter saw Oswego State add to their lead, with goals from Ashley Casserly and Sadie Zemanick. While SUNY Poly had a few scoring chances, they struggled to break through the Laker defense. Oswego State's dominance on offense, along with a series of turnovers and failed clears by the Wildcats, made it difficult for the home team to gain any traction. The Lakers entered halftime with a 16-0 lead.
In the third, Oswego State continued to apply pressure and quickly added two more goals. Despite the growing deficit, the Wildcats showed some resilience, with solid play from players like Brinley Ronan and Callie Johnson, who worked hard to keep the ball moving in their attack. There were some signs of improvement, with better offensive transitions, but Oswego State's defense was too strong, and SUNY Poly couldn't convert on their opportunities. By the end of the third quarter, the Lakers had extended their lead to 18-0.
Brinley Ronan got the Wildcats on the scoreboard in the fourth with a goal, ending the shutout. Moments later, Katelynn Truax added another goal, assisted by Abigail Rosaschi. Though the Lakers maintained control of the game, SUNY POL's persistence in the final minutes was a positive takeaway. The Lakers would go on to win by a score of 20-2.
