WBB: Wildcats Fall Short on the Road vs. Hartwick

Oneonta, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team battled hard but ultimately fell short against Hartwick, losing 60-54. Alysa Jackson led the Wildcats with 18 points, while Sanaa Lee and Alivia Turk each recorded double-digit rebounds. SUNY Poly now sits at 2-14 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Hartwick struck first, converting a layup to take an early 2-0 lead. SUNY Poly quickly responded with a layup from Alysa Jackson, tying the game at 2-2. As the first half progressed, turnovers piled up for both teams, but solid shooting from the Hawks allowed them to edge out a 19-16 lead with just under two minutes remaining. The Wildcats continued to battle, with Kelsey Meca hitting a big three-pointer to close the gap to 19-22. However, Hartwick answered right back with a three-pointer from Yadira Smith, extending their lead to 25-19. Despite a late rally from Poly, with Jackson and Lee contributing scores in the final minute, Hartwick held firm and entered the break with a 30-23 lead.

The second half saw both teams struggle to find their rhythm, with missed shots and turnovers slowing the pace. Hartwick capitalized on mistakes early, extending their lead. However, the Wildcats began to mount a comeback, led by strong performances from Jackson and Turk. Turk scored back-to-back layups to bring Poly within 12, but Hartwick responded with timely baskets to keep their advantage. In the fourth quarter, Jackson kept pushing with several quick layups, while Hannah Shipley drained a crucial three-pointer to make it a six-point game with under two minutes left. Despite their best efforts, the Wildcats couldn't close the gap. With the score at 58-52, Jackson continued to drive for SUNY Poly, but Hartwick held on, closing out the game with a 60-54 win.
