Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team earned a 60-43 victory over the Russell Sage Gators. Alysa Jackson led the Wildcats with 15 points, while Sanaa Lee recorded 11 rebounds and seven blocks. With the win, SUNY Poly improves to 2-13 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game opened with Kelsey Meca hitting a three-pointer for SUNY Poly, but Russell Sage quickly responded with a series of baskets. The Gators briefly took the lead, capitalizing on missed shots by the Wildcats. The first half turned into a defensive showdown, with both teams trading turnovers and forcing tough shots. Lee was a standout for the Wildcats, blocking multiple shots and controlling the paint. As the half wound down, SUNY Poly built a slim lead thanks to a three-pointer from Kate Donnelly and some key rebounds from Alivia Turk. The Wildcats headed into halftime with a 23-20 advantage.
Russell Sage came out strong in the second half, cutting the deficit to 23-22 with a quick jumper. However, SUNY Poly quickly regained control, with Lee converting a layup to push the lead to 25-22. From there, the Wildcats' defense took over, stifling Russell Sage's offense and forcing multiple turnovers. Strong rebounding from Lee, Turk, and Donnelly allowed SUNY Poly to expand their lead to 44-27 with just under three minutes remaining. The Wildcats closed out the game with poise, finishing strong and securing the 60-43 win.
