Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's basketball team suffered a 59-36 loss to the Houghton Highlanders at home, with eight different Wildcats contributing to the score. Kate Donnelly led the team with 9 points. The Wildcats now stand at 1-13 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first half, Houghton quickly took control, starting with a three-pointer by Kayla Camacho for an early 3-0 lead. SUNY Poly responded with a three of their own from Hannah Shipley to tie the game at 3-3. However, Houghton's offense soon found its rhythm, with multiple players contributing key baskets, including a series of fastbreak layups. The Highlanders also stifled SUNY Poly with strong defense, securing rebounds and forcing turnovers.
Despite some solid plays from the Wildcats, including a layup from Asia Kirkpatrick and another three-pointer from Shipley late in the half, SUNY Poly struggled to keep pace with Houghton's scoring. The Highlanders built a commanding 34-13 lead by halftime.
In the second half, SUNY Poly made a few attempts to close the gap, but Houghton's offense remained relentless. The Highlanders continued to capitalize on turnovers and strong defensive rebounding, limiting the Wildcats' opportunities. Although SUNY Poly had a few key steals and late efforts, Houghton maintained control throughout and closed out the game with a 59-36 victory.
