Brockport, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team was defeated by the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles by a score of 91-36. Hannah Shipley led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 points, While Sanaa Lee ended the game with a team high 11 rebounds. The Wildcats are now 1-11 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Both teams struggled to score early in the first quarter, but the Wildcats would take a slight lead midway through thanks to Hannah Shipley and Maria Bacigalupo. Behind strong efforts from Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and Cam Tooley, the Golden Eagles would eventually take the lead back and build on it to end the quarter on top 18-5.
The Golden Eagles continued to build on their momentum in the second quarter, extending their lead through a series of fast break opportunities and efficient shooting. Meanwhile, SUNY Poly struggled to find its rhythm, missing several key shots. Brockport capitalized on the Wildcats' struggles, and the teams entered halftime with SUNY Poly trailing 42-8.
In the second half, SUNY Poly showed brief signs of life, with Shipley and Bacigalupo hitting key three-pointers. Despite these efforts, Brockport's defense, led by Shannon Blankenship and Jackie Kozakiewicz, continued to apply pressure, forcing turnovers and securing crucial rebounds. The Golden Eagles maintained their dominance throughout the half, ultimately securing a 91-36 victory.
