Rochester, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's basketball team was defeated by the Nazareth Golden Flyers, 85-68. Despite four Wildcats finishing in double figures, including Cheickne Toure and Jarrett Wilbur with 15 points apiece. The loss snapped SUNY Poly's five-game winning streak, bringing their season record to 7-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half saw both teams exchange early three-pointers, with Jaylen Savage and Solomon McFarlane knocking down shots for Nazareth, while Daimarr Miller answered for SUNY Poly. Nazareth built a small lead midway through the half, but the Wildcats responded with baskets from Wilbur and Toure, trimming the margin to just four points. Both teams traded baskets in the closing minutes, but Nazareth's defense and key rebounds allowed them to maintain their lead. SUNY Poly had chances to close the gap, but entered halftime trailing, 37-31.
In the second half, Nazareth extended their lead, building on the six-point advantage they had at the break. SUNY Poly fought back early, narrowing the deficit to just one point, fueled by Miller and Toure. However, Nazareth answered with timely baskets from Savage and Tyler Putney, going on a decisive run that extended the lead to 11 points with less than six minutes remaining. Despite late efforts from Toure and a jumper from Luke Lowry, the Wildcats couldn't mount a comeback. Nazareth secured the victory, 85-68.
"I'm proud of how our guys competed today," said head coach Rob Schoener. "In the last 10 minutes, we ran out of steam a little bit, and credit to Nazareth – they are a good team. We're excited to get some rest and get back to it Tuesday at Brockport."
