Utica, N.Y. — The SUNY Poly women's soccer team fell to 0-2 in conference play after losing to the Hartwick Hawks 5-2. Grace Byrne led Hartwick with two goals on two shots, while Kate Donnelly and Hannah Shipley found the net for the Wildcats. SUNY Poly's record now stands at 5-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Hartwick quickly took control, scoring two goals within the first ten minutes of the match. The Wildcats responded with a penalty kick from Hannah Shipley in the 14th minute, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, Grace Byrne netted her first goal of the game in the 34th minute, sending Hartwick into halftime with a 3-1 lead.
The Hawks wasted no time extending their advantage after the break, with Byrne scoring her second goal shortly after the restart. Both teams added another goal, but the Wildcats ultimately fell 5-2.
