MSOC: Last Minute Goal Lifts the Wildcats to Victory Over the Hawks

Oneonta, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team secured their first conference win of the season, edging the Hartwick Hawks 2-1 with a dramatic late penalty kick goal from Matthew McCord. The win snaps the Wildcats two-game skid and improves their record to 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Hawks struck first, with Andres Ordonez Acosta netting his first goal of the season in the 23rd minute. The Wildcats generated several opportunities before halftime, but key saves from Hartwick goalkeeper Dante Gesamondo kept the score at 1-0 heading into the break.

The Wildcats found their momentum early in the second half when Abus Mohamed-Ali scored his first goal of the season just three minutes into the half, equalizing the match. Both teams battled for control over the next 35 minutes, but it wasn't until the 86th minute when Matthew McCord converted a penalty kick, sealing the Wildcats' victory.

UP NEXT:
The Wildcats will continue their road trip, facing off against the MCLA Trailblazers on September 29th at 2:30 PM.
