Brooklyn, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's basketball team defeated the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers in the "Go 4 The Goal Tournament" championship game by a score of 83-71. Four Wildcats scored in double digits, with Anthony Rose leading the charge with 22. The Wildcats are now 5-5 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Panthers opened the scoring with an early layup, but the Wildcats quickly responded with a three-pointer from Daimarr Miller. Wildcat Anthony Rose was a constant threat, contributing 16 points and four assists in the half. Baskets from William Scanlon would give the Wildcats a slight edge midway through the half. The Panthers would claw their way back, hitting key shots and taking a brief two point lead. A few more clutch baskets from the Wildcats would give them a 46-43 lead heading into halftime.
After a quick back-and-forth start to the second half, Jarrett Wilbur's layup and a three-pointer by William Scanlon gave the Wildcats a 51-48 lead. Cheickne Toure and LaMarqus Merchant Jr. added key baskets to eventually push the advantage to double digits. The Wildcats would keep up the pressure and would go on to secure an 83-71 victory
"Anytime you get to compete for a championship it is a great thing," said head coach Rob Schoener. "The guys really locked in and guarded the way they are capable of in the second half. Excited to start league play after the New Year."
