Utica, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team dropped a hard fought battle against the Houghton Highlanders by a score of 2-1. Senior Hannah Shipley scored the lone Wildcat goal, while goalkeeper Michalyn Fagan made 12 important saves. The Wildcats are now 5-8-1 on the season.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
The first half showcased solid defensive efforts from both teams, resulting in a scoreless tie at halftime. Houghton tallied 13 shots, compared to the Wildcats' five.
The Highlanders broke the stalemate in the 54th minute with a goal from Taylor Curyto, marking her fourth of the season and giving Houghton a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats quickly responded, with Kate Donnelly assisting Hannah Shipley to equalize at 1-1 just minutes later. However, Elena Esh scored the decisive goal for Houghton in the 69th minute, sealing the 2-1 victory.
