Keuka, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's soccer team salvaged a 3-3 draw against the Keuka College Wolves with a last-minute goal from Aubree Smykla. Smykla was a standout for the Wildcats, netting two goals on three shots, while goalkeeper Michalyn Fagan made six saves. The Wildcats now stand at 5-6-1 for the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wolves struck first in the 28th minute with Ava Watt scoring her first goal of the season. The Wildcats quickly responded, as Kate Donnelly found the net just five minutes later, leveling the score at 1-1. Both teams had opportunities to score before halftime, but the score remained tied at the break.
In the second half, Sam Bates scored two rapid goals for Keuka, extending their lead to 3-1 by the 54th minute. However, the Wildcats would fight back as Aubree Smykla pulled the team within one in the 64th minute with a goal from a free kick taken by Amanda Sweet. Smykla completed her impressive performance in the 89th minute, scoring off a pass from Hannah Shipley to secure the dramatic 3-3 draw.
