COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly baseball team opened up North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Friday with a 5-2 loss to the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers. The Wildcats started slow, leading to a 4-0 deficit in the eighth that they were unable to overcome. The Wildcats are now 7-12 this season and 0-1 in NAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Cobleskill scored their first run in the game in the bottom of the second inning when Chris Champlin scored on an RBI single by Matthew Snyder. In the fifth inning, Logan Firment scored on a sacrifice fly by Frank Leger to put Cobleskill up 2-0.

The Fighting Tigers extended their lead to 3-0 in the seventh inning when David Flora's bunt single drove in Frank Leger. Logan Hutter extended the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single that scored Anthony Vicinanzo.

SUNY Polytechnic responded with two runs in the top of the eighth inning. James Lynch drove in Don Vento with an RBI single. Lynch scored a few plays later on a Paul Barber groundout.  

However, Cobleskill added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a home run by Logan Firment to make it a three-run game.

Wyatt Palmer earned the win on the mound for Cobleskill, pitching a complete game and allowing two runs on eight hits. Aaron Kifer suffered the loss for SUNY Polytechnic, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on seven hits.

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats and the Fighting Tigers will continue their series on Saturday, at 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM. The games will be played at Cobleskill State.
