MLAX: Wildcats Lose to Division I Opponent Hampton University 15-10.

HAMPTON, VA. – The SUNY Poly men's lacrosse team lost to Hampton University on Tuesday. The final score was 15-10 in favor of Hampton, but the Wildcats put up a great fight against the NCAA Division I opponent. The Wildcats are now 1-2 this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Wildcats and the Pirates played a low scoring first quarter with each team scoring one goal. The offensive production picked up in the second quarter, with six total goals being scored; two by SUNY Poly and four by Hampton. The Wildcats were out scored in the third 5-4, building a three goal deficit heading into the last 15 minutes. The Pirates closed out the game with a five goal quarter, closing the book on a five goal win.

NOTABLES:

  • Charles Rosaschi (Highland Mills, N.Y.) scored a team high four points in the game for the Wildcats. The senior netted two goals and dished out a pair of assists.
  • Daniel Rivie (Ossining, N.Y.) caused a team high four turnovers in the game. He also scored a pair of goals and picked up three groundballs.
  • Chase LaCava (Jamesville, N.Y.) had a pair of assists and a goal in the game for the Wildcats.
  • Jacob Elliott (Troy, N.Y.) and Shane Wyman (East Greenbush, N.Y.) each had two points for the Wildcats. Elliott had a goal and an assist. Wyman had two goals.
  • Robert Pollock (Fulton, N.Y.) and Edward Rosaschi (Highland, Mills, N.Y.) each scored one goal.
  • Samuel Rubin (Goshen, N.Y.) was credited with the loss in the game. He made eight saves in a full 60 minutes played.
  • Hampton University was led by Pierce Johnson and Lonnie Jones. Both players scored six points in the game. Johnson had two goals and four assists. Jones had a goal and five assists.
  • Darren Almodiel and Elliott Johnson III both had four caused turnovers in the game. Almodiel scored a goal in the second quarter. Johnson also scored a goal and had two ground balls.
  • Malcolm Flynn had a game high 10 ground balls. He also caused three turnovers.
  • Kevin Mondy Jr was credited with the win in goal. He made seven saves in 30 minutes played.

The Wildcats will wrap up their spring break with a game at Wilmington University in New Castle, Delaware. The game is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start on Friday, March 15th.
