Box Score 3 POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The SUNYIT men's volleyball team finished with a 1-2 record at the United Volleyball Conference Crossover, which was held at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY this past Saturday and Sunday. The Wildcats are now 2-7 in the UVC and 9-12 overall.
The Wildcats opened competition with a 3-1 victory over Elmira College by the scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-17 and 25-16 on Saturday. Junior Ryan Meller (Eden, NY/Eden Central) led the way with a season-high 19 kills to go along with four digs and a solo block, while sophomore Jeff Coon (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) finished with 12 kills, six digs, three blocks and two serve aces. Senior Jonathan Brochu (Latham, NY/Shaker) registered a match-high 40 assists, nine digs and two serve aces, with freshman Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) finishing with seven kills, six digs, six blocks and an ace.
Zach Pugh finished with 12 kills for Elmira, while Eric Sandmann had 10 kills and seven digs.
SUNYIT would then open Sunday's action with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) loss to Nazareth College. Coon and freshman Tyler Kuss (Chili, NY/Gates-Chili) each had six kills, while Meller had five kills and Brochu finished with 19 assists and five digs.
Alex Houghtalen had eight kills for Nazareth, while E.J. Wells-Spicer dished out 22 assists and Sam Guba finished with 12 digs.
Sunday's action closed with SUNYIT suffering a hard-fought 3-0 loss to D'Youville College by the scores of 21-25, 25-27 and 23-25. Meller finished with 12 kills, seven digs and two solo blocks, with Jeff Coon posting a .381 hitting percentage and registering 10 kills, three digs, two blocks and an ace. Senior Tysheem Foy-Carter (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) compiled a team-best eight digs, Brochu totaled 29 assists and seven digs and Krowicki posted six kills and seven digs.
Jeremy Sajdak smashed 17 of D'Youville's 47 kills on the day, while Vince Amico had 26 assists and a match-high 12 digs.
The Wildcats will be back in on Tuesday when they travel to Stevenson University in Owings Mills, MD for a tri-match. They will first take on Mount Olive College at 5:30 pm before squaring off against Stevenson at 7:30 pm.
