MVB: Wildcats Sweep Curry, Hold Off Dean in Four-Set Victory

Milton, M.A.  – The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team delivered an impressive day on the road, sweeping Curry College in straight sets before battling Dean College in a tightly contested four-set match to secure another victory. With the pair of wins, the Wildcats improve to 17-9 on the season.

GAME ONE: SUNY POLY VS. CURRY COLLEGE

Set One

The opening set featured several early lead changes as both teams traded points through the first half. Kills from Aaron Hennessy, Peter Gottler, and Andrew Baaki helped SUNY Poly keep pace while Quincy Stayton contributed a key service ace to even the score midway through the frame.

Curry briefly created separation with a run behind Chris Milfort and strong blocking at the net, stretching the lead to 15–11. The Wildcats responded with an aggressive push late in the set, capitalizing on service pressure and forcing multiple attack errors to narrow the gap to 21–21. From there, SUNY Poly's block proved decisive as Jordan Prusky, Gottler, and Hennessy combined on several key stops to close the set on a 4–1 run and secure a 25–22 victory.

Set Two

SUNY Poly seized momentum early in the second set, jumping out to a quick advantage behind kills from Hennessy and Stayton along with a service ace from Prusky. Gottler continued to provide a strong presence offensively, finishing multiple swings set up by Joshua Slater as the Wildcats built a steady lead.

Curry attempted to rally behind Milfort, but SUNY Poly maintained control through consistent offense from Baaki and Prusky and solid blocking at the net. Late points from Stayton and Hennessy helped the Wildcats pull away, and a final kill from Stayton sealed a 25–18 win and a 2–0 match lead.

Set Three

The third set proved to be the most competitive of the match. The teams exchanged points throughout the opening stretch, with Baaki, Hennessy, and Stayton providing key offense for SUNY Poly while Curry countered with several kills from Milfort.

Neither side was able to create significant separation as the set remained tied late at 24–24. In the extra points, the Wildcats relied on clutch play from Baaki and Prusky to regain the advantage before forcing a Curry attack error that closed the set 26–24 and completed the sweep.

GAME TWO: SUNY POLY VS. DEAN COLLEGE

Set One

SUNY Poly came out strong in the opening frame, racing to an early lead behind multiple kills from Derek Gottler and Jordan Prusky along with disciplined blocking at the net. Dean struggled to generate consistent offense during the early stretch as the Wildcats built a commanding advantage.

Despite several late points from Dean's Hunter Armitage and Jerney Price, SUNY Poly maintained control behind continued offense from Baaki and Gottler. The Wildcats closed out the set 25–17 after a key block from Joe Rehbit and Prusky halted Dean's final push.

Set Two

The Wildcats dominated the second set from the outset, jumping out to a large early lead thanks to aggressive serving and capitalizing on several Dean attack errors. Quincy Stayton and Derek Gottler paced the offense while Nathan Zuber added a service ace to extend the advantage.

Dean attempted to respond midway through the set, but SUNY Poly continued to control the tempo. A pair of late service aces from Prusky and consistent offense from Vincenzo Geloso helped the Wildcats maintain their cushion before a Dean attack error secured a 25–16 victory and a 2–0 match lead.

Set Three

Dean responded with urgency in the third set, building an early lead behind strong offensive play from Armitage and Price. SUNY Poly stayed within striking distance thanks to kills from Peter Gottler and Geloso, but Dean continued to apply pressure with a balanced attack.

Despite several rallies late in the set, the Wildcats were unable to overcome the deficit as Dean closed out the frame 25–19 to extend the match.

Set Four

The final set featured several momentum swings early as both teams traded runs. SUNY Poly gained an early spark from back-to-back service aces by Peter Gottler and a series of kills from Aiden Passmore and Prusky to establish a narrow lead.

Dean fought back late behind Felicio and Mimande, eventually tying the set at 21–21. In the closing moments, SUNY Poly capitalized on Dean errors and received a key kill from Geloso to regain control. The Wildcats held off the final rally and closed the match 25–23 to secure the four-set victory.
