Box Score BENNINGTON, VT – Junior Ryan Meller (Eden, NY/Eden Central) extended his double-digit kills streak to eight straight matches and helped guide the SUNYIT men's volleyball team to its third straight victory with a 3-0 win (25-13, 25-20, 26-24) over the Southern Vermont Mountaineers Thursday night. The Wildcats are now 5-2 on the year, while Southern Vermont fell to 2-5.
Meller extended his streak that dates back to last season with a team-best 13 kills on the night. The 6-foot-1 outside hitter added five digs on the night.
The Wildcats held Southern Vermont to a .104 hitting average and registered six total team blocks en route to the victory, with sophomore Jeff Coon (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) registering three solo blocks of his own while adding six kills and six digs. Freshman Tim Maracic (Franklin Square, NY/Carey) had a match-high four serve aces and senior Jonathan Brochu (Latham, NY/Shaker) totaled a match-best 28 assists.
The Wildcats will be back in action this weekend when they travel to participate in the United Volleyball Conference Crossover Tournament, which will be co-hosted by Medaille College and D'Youville College. They will first head to D'Youville to take on Hilbert College at 5:00 pm Saturday and will then square off against Medaille at their place on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
