Box Score 4 BEVERLY, MA – The SUNYIT men's volleyball team finished with a 1-3 record at the Endicott College February Mania Tournament this past weekend. The Wildcats are now 7-6 overall.
Junior Ryan Meller (Eden, NY/Eden Central) finished the weekend with four-match totals of 41 kills, 28 digs, four serve aces, three assists and 46.5 points to be named to his second All-Tournament team this season.
The Wildcats opened competition with a hard-fought 3-1 loss (25-22, 13-25, 14-25, 22-25) to nationally ranked Baruch on Saturday. Meller had six kills and seven digs, while freshman Dylan Krowicki (Little Falls, NY/Little Falls) had a team-high 11 kills, senior Tysheem Foy-Carter (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) had a team-best 10 digs and fellow classmate Jonathan Brochu (Latham, NY/Shaker) finished with 25 assists and two serve aces.
SUNYIT then ended day one of competition with a 3-0 loss (14-25, 18-25, 12-25) against United Volleyball Conference rival Vassar College. Meller had team highs of seven kills and nine digs, Foy-Carter had six digs and Brochu tallied 13 assists.
Day two of the tournament started much better for the Wildcats, as they took down Emerson College 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-21) on Sunday. Meller had a team-high 16 kills, with Brochu compiling 24 assists and 13 digs and Foy-Carter also registering 13 digs. Sophomore Jeff Coon (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) had eight digs and five total blocks and Krowicki had a solid all-around game with six kills, five assists, four digs, three serve aces and three total blocks.
The Wildcats could not end on a high note, however, ending the tournament with a 3-1 loss (25-20, 23-25, 15-25, 14-25) to Hunter College. Meller had a team-best 12 kills and Krowicki smashed 10 kills to go along with seven digs and five assists. Foy-Carter came up with 11 digs, as did Brochu, who also had 27 assists, and Coon had six kills and five total blocks.
The Wildcats will be back in action this week for a pair of UVC conference matches, hosting SUNY New Paltz Thursday at 7:00 pm and Stevens Institute Saturday at noon.
