Men's Volleyball Registers Second Straight Victory with 3-0 Win Over Southern Vermont

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT men's volleyball team won its second straight contest with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Southern Vermont College Mountaineers at the Campus Center Gymnasium Tuesday night.  The Wildcats are now 4-2 overall, while Southern Vermont fell to 1-2 on the year.

SUNYIT won by the scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-13.  The Wildcats had a strong night at the net, smashing 38 kills as a team and finishing with a hitting percentage of .321, while also tallying 14 total blocks en route to the sweep.

Junior Ryan Meller (Eden, NY/Eden Central) led the way with match highs of 16 kills and two serve aces to go along with seven digs, with sophomore Jeff Coon (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) posting nine kills and five total blocks and senior setter Jonathan Brochu (Latham, NY/Shaker) handing out 36 assists.

Anthony Barahona posted 15 kills and a match-best two solo blocks for the Mountaineers, while Anthony Ayala finished with 17 assists and seven digs.

The Wildcats will be off until next week when they host The Sages Colleges on Tuesday, February 1.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
