Oswego, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's volleyball team dropped a 3–0 decision to SUNY Oswego on Wednesday night. The Wildcats battled throughout the match, falling 25–21 in the opening set before Oswego took the second set 25–20 and closed out the match with a 25–16 victory in the third.
SET ONE: SUNY Oswego 25, SUNY Poly 21
The Wildcats opened the match with an early 2–1 lead following a kill from Kassity Cruz, but Oswego quickly answered to take a 5–2 advantage. Poly continued to battle as kills from Daniella Aluisio, Catherine McCourt and Cruz helped the Wildcats stay within striking distance. McCourt and Cruz helped Poly pull within 9–8 before extending its lead to 12–8. The Wildcats continued to chip away, with kills from Olivia Linart and Ella Eichorst helping Poly remain in the lead. The Lakers eventually pulled even at 19–19 following a service ace, then took a 21–20 lead after another kill. Oswego responded with five of the last 6 points to close out the set, taking the opening frame 25–21 and a 1–0 match lead.
SET TWO: SUNY Oswego 25, SUNY Poly 20
The Wildcats scored the first two points of the second set with kills from Mylee Magnanti and Daniella Aluisio before Oswego answered to pull even at 2–2. The teams continued to trade points early, with Cruz and McCourt contributing kills as Poly stayed within one point. The Wildcats pulled even at 8–8 following an Oswego attack error. Poly continued to battle, with kills from Cruz, Eichorst and McCourt helping keep the deficit manageable. After Oswego took a 13–11 lead, the Lakers used a strong stretch to build a 20–14 advantage. Poly refused to go quietly as Cruz and Aluisio delivered key points and McCourt added a service ace to help the Wildcats pull within 22–19. Oswego answered with two straight points before Poly cut the deficit to 24–20, but the Lakers finished the set on the next point to take a 25–20 victory and move ahead 2–0.
SET THREE: SUNY Oswego 25, SUNY Poly 16
The Wildcats continued to battle in the third set as Linart, Cruz and Eichorst contributed offensively, with Poly pulling within 6–5. Oswego then used a 6–0 stretch to extend its lead to 12–6. Poly answered with points from Aluisio, Cruz and Eichorst, but the Lakers continued to maintain their advantage. Oswego eventually pushed its lead to 19–11 before Poly mounted another response. McCourt, Cruz and Aluisio helped the Wildcats cut the deficit to 21–14, while a service error from Oswego brought Poly within six at 22–16. Oswego closed out the set with three straight points, securing the 25–16 victory and the 3–0 match win.
