Geneseo, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats fell behind early as Geneseo scored twice during the opening 12 minutes before adding two more goals later in the first half to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. The Knights added two goals in the second half to secure the victory. Skylar Blackwell made 15 saves in goal for SUNY Poly.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SUNY Geneseo opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Ella Yartym found the back of the net off an assist from Lauren DeMura to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
Geneseo added to its advantage just over two minutes later when Maggie Zito scored off an assist from Katelyn Dena, making it 2-0 in the 12th minute.
Blackwell kept the Wildcats within striking distance throughout the opening half, making several saves on Geneseo scoring chances, including attempts from Zito, Ella Yartym, Emily McGee, Grace Engle and Carly Chupick.
Geneseo extended its lead in the 29th minute when Kate Pinto scored off an assist from Ashley Pawelczyk to make it 3-0. The Knights continued to pressure the Wildcats, with Blackwell making additional saves on shots from McGee and Claire Woolingham.
Pinto scored again in the 41st minute to give Geneseo a 4-0 advantage heading into halftime.
The Knights continued to generate scoring opportunities early in the second half, but Blackwell made several more saves, including stops on shots from Yartym, McGee and DeMura.
Geneseo added its fifth goal in the 62nd minute when Aicha Cisse scored off an assist from Yartym.
Blackwell continued to battle in goal, making additional saves on attempts from Yartym and Sarah Brunskill before Geneseo added its final goal in the 73rd minute. Pinto completed her hat trick with a goal assisted by Brunskill to make it 6-0.
SUNY Poly continued to compete through the final minutes, but Geneseo held on for the 6-0 victory.
