Utica, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's volleyball team earned a 3–0 victory over SUNY Delhi on Tuesday night. The Wildcats overcame an early deficit in the opening set before pulling away for a 25–12 victory. Poly then battled to a 25–22 win in the second set before closing out the match with another 25–22 victory in the third set.
SET ONE: SUNY Poly 25, SUNY Delhi 12
The Wildcats fell behind 2–0 to open the match before quickly responding with a strong 7–0 run. Catherine McCourt sparked the run with back-to-back service aces before adding two more aces later in the stretch, helping Poly take a 7–2 lead. Kassity Cruz and Camryn Clark added kills during the early run, while Daniella Aluisio contributed a pair of service aces and a kill as the Wildcats extended their advantage to 13–4. Poly continued to control the set as Ella Eichorst and Kara Stephens added offensive contributions. Delhi briefly cut the deficit to 10–18, but the Wildcats answered with another strong stretch. Cruz recorded back-to-back kills to push Poly's lead to 23–11, followed by a service ace from Teagan Hopkins. The Wildcats closed out the opening frame 25–12 to take a 1–0 match lead.
SET TWO: SUNY Poly 25, SUNY Delhi 22
Delhi opened the second set with a 3–1 advantage before Poly answered with kills from Kara Stephens and Cruz. The teams traded points throughout the early portion of the frame, with the Wildcats eventually pulling even at 11–11. Poly then built momentum behind kills from Mylee Magnanti, Catherine McCourt and Cruz, while Eichorst added a pair of service aces to help the Wildcats take a 15–14 lead. The set remained tightly contested as Delhi answered to tie the score at 17–17. The Wildcats then took control with a 5–0 run, highlighted by a kill from McCourt, a service ace from McCourt and consecutive kills from Magnanti, giving Poly a 22–18 advantage. Delhi battled back to within one at 22–21, but the Wildcats responded with another kill from Magnanti and a point from Daniella Aluisio before Aluisio closed out the set with a service ace. Poly claimed the second set 25–22 to take a 2–0 match lead.
SET THREE: SUNY Poly 25, SUNY Delhi 22
Poly jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the third set behind a service ace from Grace Southwick, but Delhi quickly answered to tie the score at 2–2. The Wildcats regained control with a strong stretch that included kills from Olivia Linart, Aluisio, McCourt and Julia Holmes, while Southwick provided several assists and helped Poly build an 8–4 advantage. Delhi continued to battle, cutting the deficit to 11–10 before the Wildcats responded with a 4–0 run. McCourt delivered back-to-back service aces during the stretch as Poly extended its lead to 13–10. The Wildcats maintained their advantage through the middle of the set, with Linart and Eichorst adding kills. Poly eventually pushed its lead to 20–15 before Delhi mounted another comeback, cutting the deficit to 22–20. The Wildcats remained composed down the stretch, with Morgan Fusillo recording a late kill to put Poly within one point of the set victory. Delhi reached 22 points, but a final service error gave Poly the 25–22 win and completed the 3–0 sweep.
