Anthony Rose and Shelbi Hagues Earn Top Honors at Annual Wildcat Athletics Banquet

Utica, N.Y. – Anthony Rose, Shelbi Hagues, Luke Landis, Jordan Prusky, and Ava Stoby were among the standout student-athletes honored at the end-of-year Athletics Awards Banquet held on Sunday, May 3.

The evening's highest honors—the Wildcat of the Year awards, presented to the top overall male and female athletes—were awarded to Anthony Rose (men's basketball) and Shelbi Hagues (softball).

Rose put together one of the most impressive seasons in SUNY Poly men's basketball history, leading the Wildcats in nearly every major category while helping guide the program to another successful campaign. Starting all 26 games, he averaged 19.3 points per game and finished the season with 501 total points while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor and 85 percent from the free-throw line. His all-around impact extended far beyond scoring, as he also totaled 135 rebounds, 50 assists, 37 steals, and 20 blocks.

His remarkable season earned him Empire 8 Player of the Year honors, First-Team All-Conference recognition, and D3hoops.com All-Region First Team accolades. Rose also became the first player in SUNY Poly history selected to participate in the NABC Division III All-Star Game since 2011, cementing his place among the top players in the nation. He capped off his collegiate career ranked fourth all-time in program history with 1,498 career points, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest players to wear a Wildcat uniform.

Hagues was equally dominant for SUNY Poly softball, excelling both at the plate and in the pitching circle throughout the season. Starting all 20 games, she batted an outstanding .432 with a .462 on-base percentage and a .459 slugging percentage, collecting 32 hits in 74 at bats while scoring 23 runs and consistently sparking the Wildcats' offense.

In the circle, she proved to be one of the team's most reliable arms, starting all 10 of her appearances and posting a stellar 2.65 ERA across 60.2 innings pitched. She totaled 57 strikeouts, limited opposing hitters throughout the season, and added a shutout performance to her impressive résumé. Her leadership, consistency, and two-way excellence made her one of the premier athletes in the conference this season.

Luke Landis (baseball) earned Performance of the Year honors following a historic showing against Houghton on April 4. Landis delivered a perfect 5-for-5 performance at the plate, recording five RBIs with two doubles, a single, and a home run which ultimately led the Wildcats to clinching a playoff spot.

Jordan Prusky (men's volleyball) was named Male Rookie of the Year after a standout first collegiate season. Appearing in 92 sets, Prusky recorded 154 kills while hitting an efficient .298, adding 54 digs, 42 total blocks, and 10 service aces. His impact was immediate and consistent throughout the season, earning him NEVC Rookie of the Year honors as well as Second Team All-Conference recognition in both the NEVC and Empire 8. His versatility and strong play at the net quickly established him as one of the program's rising stars.

Female Rookie of the Year honors went to Ava Stoby, whose versatility and dedication stood out across multiple sports during her first year at SUNY Poly. On the women's lacrosse team, she appeared in 11 games with seven starts, tallying a goal and an assist while contributing five ground balls and two caused turnovers. In addition to her success on the lacrosse field, she also competed for the Wildcats' cross-country team, consistently contributing strong finishes throughout the season. Her ability to excel in two demanding collegiate sports highlighted her athleticism, determination, and commitment to SUNY Poly athletics.

Scholar-Athletes of the Year Honored for Academic Excellence

This year's Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year was awarded to Zachary Christian (men's lacrosse), a Technology Management major who earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. On the women's side, Grace Southwick (women's volleyball), a Mechanical Engineering major, and Katelyn Adams (softball), a Psychology major, were both named Women's Scholar-Athletes of the Year after also achieving perfect 4.0 GPAs.
