Utica, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon, sweeping both Hartwick College and Regis College in straight sets to claim a perfect 2–0 day in a tri-match at home. With the pair of wins, the Wildcats move to 9-6 on the season.
GAME ONE: SUNY POLY VS. HARTWICK
Set One
The opening set was competitive early, with the teams trading points through the middle of the frame. SUNY Poly leaned heavily on Joshua Slater's distribution, as Andrew Baaki and Jordan Prusky consistently terminated attacks to keep the Wildcats in front. Key blocks by Baaki and Slater helped slow Hartwick's momentum, and SUNY Poly began to create separation late behind a service ace from Baaki and steady side-out play. A late kill from Peter Gottler and a service ace from Slater sealed a 25–20 first-set win.
Set Two
The Wildcats came out sharp in the second set, jumping out to an early lead behind Prusky's offense and solid blocking at the net. SUNY Poly maintained control throughout the frame, with Baaki, Aaron Hennessy, and Gottler all contributing timely kills. Hartwick attempted to rally late, but SUNY Poly responded with clean execution in transition and strong defensive play. Hennessy finished the set with a kill to secure a 25–20 victory and a 2–0 match advantage.
Set Three
Hartwick opened the third set with an early run, but SUNY Poly quickly settled in and answered with a balanced attack. Contributions from Vincenzo Geloso, Kaiden Ranger, Jacob Svara, and Baaki helped swing momentum back to the Wildcats. SUNY Poly's blocking proved decisive down the stretch, as Ranger and Geloso combined on multiple stops at the net. Late service aces from Nathan Zuber helped close out the set, 25–15, completing the 3–0 sweep.
GAME TWO: SUNY POLY VS. REGIS
Set One
The opening set featured several momentum swings, with Regis pushing SUNY Poly early through strong serving and offense. The Wildcats responded behind Prusky and Gottler, while Slater added a service ace to spark a key run. SUNY Poly gained control late, capitalizing on Regis errors and strong blocking from Baaki and Slater. The Wildcats closed out the extended set, 26–24, to take a 1–0 lead.
Set Two
SUNY Poly asserted itself early in the second set, using efficient side-out play and balanced offense to build a cushion. Quincy Stayton, Baaki, and Gottler all found success at the net, while the Wildcats' block disrupted Regis' attack. Despite several late pushes from Regis, SUNY Poly stayed composed and finished the set with a kill from Gottler, earning a 25–20 win.
Set Three
The Wildcats delivered their most complete performance in the final set, opening with strong blocking and consistent offense to take control early. Baaki and Prusky led the attack, while Slater continued to facilitate the offense effectively. SUNY Poly's defense limited Regis' scoring opportunities, and the Wildcats steadily widened the gap before closing out the match with a service error from Regis, 25–14.
