MVB: Wildcats Drop Road Conference Matchup vs Endicott

Beverly, Mass. – The SUNY Poly men's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to Endicott College on Saturday night, falling 3–0 (25–16, 25–19, 33–31). With the loss, the Wildcats move to 9–9 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set One

Endicott established control early in the opening frame, using a balanced attack from Jake Laborde, Ethan Norris, and Aidan Iacovelli to build momentum. After an early kill from Andrew Baaki off a Joshua Slater assist kept SUNY Poly even at 1–1, the Gulls responded with a decisive run fueled by multiple swings from Jackson Gray and Norris. Service pressure proved critical, as Norris delivered an ace and Laborde added another to widen the gap.

The Wildcats found points behind Quincy Stayton and Baaki, while Peter Gottler added a late kill, but Endicott's blocking presence—highlighted by Aaron Bennett and Thomas Matchett—limited SUNY Poly's rhythm. The Gulls closed out the set on a block of Baaki to secure a 25–16 win and a 1–0 match lead.

Set Two

The second set featured more back-and-forth action early, with Baaki and Gottler providing steady offense for the Wildcats. However, Endicott used a mid-set surge to take command. Norris delivered back-to-back service aces, and Laborde terminated in transition to push the advantage.

SUNY Poly answered with strong net play, including a block from Jordan Prusky and Corey Hollingsworth, and a kill from Stayton to cut into the deficit. Despite the push, Endicott's offense remained efficient, with Laborde and Iacovelli connecting consistently off assists from Matty Tiernan. A late kill from Bennett sealed the 25–19 set victory, giving the Gulls a two-set edge.

Set Three

The third set turned into a marathon battle, featuring 18 ties and multiple lead changes. Iacovelli and Norris continued to power Endicott offensively, while SUNY Poly countered with contributions from Baaki, Gottler, and Prusky. A service ace from Gray and timely blocks from Bennett and Matchett helped Endicott build an early cushion, but the Wildcats clawed back behind kills from Stayton and Geloso.

Late in the set, both teams traded points in dramatic fashion. Baaki and Slater connected in key moments, while Iacovelli answered with clutch swings to keep the Gulls alive. The set extended well beyond 25 points, as neither side would yield. Ultimately, Laborde delivered consecutive kills in extra points to close out the 33–31 victory and complete the sweep for Endicott.
